The Oak Woodlands & Forests Fire Consortium is proud to be a partner along with the Arkansas Private Land Partnership on the Wildlife Habitat Restoration on Private Lands Conference. This multi-day conference brings together professionals from many agencies and organizations dedicated to habitat restoration on private lands. The conference is intended to improve communications among and between agencies and organizations, offer cross-training about private lands programs, share landowner success stories, learn about successful on-the-ground techniques, and provide updates about farm bill programs and other information of relevance to those working with private landowners. 

For this fourth conference, experts will present current knowledge about prescribed fire and associated ecosystems both in the field and classroom.

Join us for this free field tour at City Rock Bluff on the White River, near Calico Rock, Arkansas. Explore these fascinating glade ecosystems on public and private lands, learn how they are currently being restored and managed using prescribed fire and other treatments, and what this means for eastern collared lizards, rare plants, and more! Theo Witsell (Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission), Casey Brewster (University of Arkansas), and Joe Massey (Natural Resources Conservation Service) will describe their work with glades and natural community restoration, as well as U.S. Forest Service and The Nature Conservancy land managers. Expect many opportunities for networking and sharing your experiences and lessons learned.

Prescribed Fire and Forest Management

This field tour, held as part of the Arkansas Wildlife Habitat Restoration on Private Lands Conference on the grounds of the UA Livestock and Forestry Research Station in Batesville, Arkansas will explore the effects of different forest cutting, herbicide, and prescribed fire treatments on forest composition and structure, wildlife habitat, and timber quality.
